Respond to the colleagues posts regarding: “Green IT” Please respond to the following: • With a focus on enterprise hardware, software, services, and human capital, list and describe three advantages of green IT. • Speculate on the role of the CIO in a specific industry (i.e., manufacturing, insurance, higher education, government, and distribution) when implementing green IT. Describe three notable actions that the CIO should engage in and briefly explain how these actions could strategically impact the organization. AYs post states the following: With a focus on enterprise hardware, software, services, and human capital, list and describe three advantages of green IT.        There are many examples of deployments of green IT. Green IT can be appliances that utilize less power, organizations that use natural power sources such as wind turbines, and solar energy, the reduction of usage of papers and other physical resources, web conferencing instead of physically commuting to meetings, cloud computing, thin clients, virtualization and more. (McCabe, 2009)   A few years ago, it was suggested that data centers would overtake the airline industry as the most damaging industry to the environment with CO2 emissions. Due to this the industry has reviewed possible solutions to mitigate this projection. While not all organizations consider their carbon footprint, vendors have manufactured products that align with green IT philosophies, and these along with technologies such as the cloud are advantages. (Mealey, 2019)     Three advantages of green IT, other than that on the environment, are the ability to have less of a physical footprint which can save costs on rental space and costs of power, the cost reduction of disposing of devices since less can be used, and less headcount required for management in some cases.  (DigitalThinkerHelp, 2018)   References:   https://www.smallbusinesscomputing.com/testdrive/article.php/3855806/What-Is-Green-IT-and-Why-Should-You-Care.htm   https://www.computerweekly.com/news/1280097080/Weighing-the-benefits-of-green-IT   https://medium.com/@rmsrn.85/green-computing-and-its-advantages-disadvantages-examples-b13f42d65cab   Speculate on the role of the CIO in a specific industry (i.e., manufacturing, insurance, higher education, government, and distribution) when implementing green IT. Describe three notable actions that the CIO should engage in and briefly explain how these actions could strategically impact the organization.   I believe the CIO in any industry has the responsibility to setting the tone of the company towards green IT. For instance, the company I work for, has set goals and practices towards green IT. Some of these include telecommuting, virtualization, recycling programs and more. While it is easier for the company I work for to reach these goals due to it being a large company, even smaller companies can strive to make smaller changes towards green IT. Three notable actions a CIO could engage in to impact the organization are:        Setting policies to recycle electronics and identify areas where resources usage can be reduced, implementing policies for forward thinking towards solutions such as the cloud and virtualization, and investigating policies to allow for telecommuting where possible. These policies can help the environment by reducing carbon emissions, reduction of costs by eliminating space and environmental costs, and even possibly increase morale of employees by allowing flexibility to telecommute. Respond to the colleagues posts regarding: “Project Reviews” Please respond to the following: • Review the types of project reviews in Chapter 19 of the Lane text on page 189. Compare and contrast the different types of project reviews. Speculate as to which project review would have a more sustainable impact in regard to the evaluation of a project. • In your opinion, determine which project review would best serve an enterprise software development project. Explain your answer. RK’s post states the following: Review the types of project reviews in chapter 19 of the lane text on page 189. Compare and contrast the different types of the project reviews. Speculate as to which project reviews would have a more sustainable impact in regard to the evaluation of a project. The reviews are: Peer review which is an informal review at any point in the project life cycle. The aim is to have a fresh look at the project and say whether or not it is done as expected. Project audit review aims at looking whether the project is compliant with the company’s standards or not. Project evaluation review is an informal review carried out by the project manager. It aims at assessing the project progress against the set costs. It reassures the project stakeholders that the project is progressing as expected. Benefits project review takes place after the project handover and is conducted by the project sponsor. It assesses whether or not the stated and desired benefits set out in the business case have been met and to what extent. Post project review which is led by project manager happens at the end of the project, before the formal closure of the project. It assesses how the project is performed in terms of the key project measures such as cost and quality, (Elizabeth Harrin, 2016). Evaluation of a project is the assessment of ongoing or completed project to determine the level of achievement. Project audit would yield more impact in regard to evaluation since it looks at whether or not the project is acquiescent with the company’s values, organizational processes and other formal and internal guidelines like cost control and efficiency.   In your opinion, determine which project review would best serve an enterprise software development project. Explain your answer. I think the post project review would serve best since it is done at the end of the project but just before the finalizing and closure by the project manager. It assesses how the project works in terms of performance qualities like speed, memory and other resources. It also aims at evaluating if the project was done within the earlier laid budget.  So, I think It would serve better as software can be tested when all of its components have been merged as at this point, debugging is easier as changes can be done on an individual component rather than on the entire software system.   References: Elizabeth Harrin,(2016) “Which of These Project Reviews Do You Use”: Project Management.
